According to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics – in 2023, Makeup artists earn a mean annual salary of $32.97 an hour or $68,590 annually. And, there are no cosmetology licensing requirements in Texas or Nevada, even to work in Salons.
Professional makeup artists specialize in applying makeup and prosthetics. Sounds simple enough, but if you think about it – anything that changes a face or body requires a professionally trained makeup artist. Makeup Artists employ various tools, including cosmetics, specialized paints, airbrush solutions, prosthetics, hair, teeth, wigs, and special effects makeup, to modify an individual’s physical appearance. Oh yeah, opportunities for a successful career as professional makeup are pretty fabulous. Whether for beauty, fashion, retail, media, special events, weddings, film, haunted houses, or theater, all these fields demand the skills of professionally trained makeup artists, distinguishing them from cosmetologists
L Makeup Institute offers an online Makeup Career Job Board. As part of job education, students are trained in setting up, updating, and managing their profiles. Upon graduation, graduates can search and apply for jobs through the online job portal, register for career and professional development activities and get their resume, portfolios and cover letters reviewed by a Career Services Representative
Our industry insights, guest speakers, and Professional Advisory Committee provide invaluable perspectives and insider knowledge, helping you navigate the ever-evolving landscape of the makeup industry with confidence.
